Anti cyber-bullying video

Posted by Admin on January 9, 2009

On my recent post about Cyber Bullying (here) Eliza has posted a comment with a link to a very funny video about a very serious subject. It’s so good that I had to write a separate post about it. Check it out:

Children made aware of Cyber Bullying

Posted by Admin on December 22, 2008

I saw this story in one of the local papers in the UK about Cyber Bullying. A group of BTEC students has gone round some local schools to give them the message – “block, delete, escape, report, decline”.

The group was given a £2,000 budget to create the roadshow. Performer Nick Kidd said: “I played one of the central characters in the production. It was hard work but the message seemed to go out loud and clear making it a very rewarding experience.”

You can read more about it here.

I know that text bullying is a big issue and a number of operators are looking into it. The Irish Times recently did a piece on it as the Irish government has started to look at the issue much more closely. Also, the Norweigan operator Telenor has introduced a new system with the help of Anam.

Anam in The Irish Times

Posted by Admin on December 6, 2008

anam-logoThe sponsors of this site, Anam, were yesterday featured in The Irish Times in an article about cyber bullying. This is a big problem, the article quotes that, ‘according to international research, one in 10 children has been the victim of cyber bullying, and almost 20 per cent admitted to being perpetrators.’

Jote Bassi of Anam is quoted in the article saying:

“There’s a lot of attention around the fact that SMS in the wrong hands can be used to bully children,” … “Its making the headlines; there is a definite need for this service.”

While the article goes on to report that:

‘Anam’s technology, which allows parents to control and monitor their child’s mobile phone usage, has already been used by mobile network Telenor to deploy a parental control service for its subscribers, Mr Bassi said. He said there has been some interest from Irish networks in its technology.’

Well done to Anam. You can see more about their solution to this problem here.
