SMS is the new black

A review of mass market mobile apps

People text as Obama wins

Posted by Admin on November 6, 2008

We’ve written a few times about how Obama used text meesaging to help him win. Well it seems that his supporters used text messages to celebrate.

Sybase 365 has reported that there was a surge in text messages sent in the ten minutes following the offical announcement that Barrack Obama was the new President-Elect. Apparently “between 8.00pm and 8.10pm PST, the volume of messages surged over 3 times the “normal” volume for that time of day.”

Marty Beard, the president of Sybase 365, said “Such a surge is not surprising, as text messaging has become so ubiquitous around the world. This is a great example of the power of mobile messaging as a communication tool for the masses.”

It seems as if, when an epoch-changing event happens, people want to text their friends to tell them about it.
