SMS is the new black

A review of mass market mobile apps

79 billion texts sent per year

Posted by Admin on October 30, 2008

New research from the Mobile Data Association (MDA) says that UK subscribers send, on average, 217 million text messages every day. I sent about 5 today … so you lot sent 216,999,995 – that’s a lot.

Apparently the figures are up by about 60 million per day on last year.

It just goes to show that consumers like sending texts and are comfortable sending text messages. I still think that new apps are great if they fit into consumers’s lifestyle and requirements, but if you want to introduce a new app that everyone could understand and access immediately you’d do a lot worse than make it something that could be implemented through SMS.
