A review of mass market mobile apps

200 Billion texts in 2008

Posted by Admin on October 28, 2008

So I had another read of the Cell Phones Blog article containing the five highly debatable ‘truths‘.

What is interesting about this article is not the list. Instead the stat they use at the beginning of 200 billion text messages to be sent in 2008 caught my eye.

200 Billion.

They don’t state the source of the number or whether it is globally or just the US, but it’s still a pretty big number.

If we’re talking about the global population, then it is about 30 texts per year per person. And that number includes all the people without mobiles, as well as all the people who according to the guy at Palringo ‘don’t like to text’.

Whichever way you look at it – it’s a lot.
